Earthquake in Vijayapura? Shaking Reported In Karnataka City

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) map showed that there was an earthquake in Bijapur – Karnataka city officially known as Vijayapura early on Monday. However, officials and the National Center for Seismology (NCS) have not confirmed the same. EMSC is an international, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization. The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) map showed that a 2.9 magnitude earthquake struck Bijapur – Karnataka city officially known as Vijayapura early on Monday. However, officials and the National Center for Seismology (NCS) have not confirmed the same. EMSC is an international, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization. According too EMSC, the quake hit about 109 kilometers from Solapur and only 19 kilometers south east of Bijapur. The website reported that the earthquake was at a depth of 5 kilometers and 35 people admitted that they felt it. However, no official has confirmed whether an earthquake struck the area. A user on X, platform formerly known as Twitter, asked ‘Did You Feel It?’

Owner Brutally Thrashes Labourers with Pipes for Returning Late to Work from Hometown in Vijayapura

Vijayapura: Three labourers were brutally thrashed with pipes for returning late to work following a festival visit to their hometown. The incident took place near Gandhi Nagar’s Star Chowk on Sindagi Road. The video shows Khemu Rathod, the owner of a brick kiln, brutally beating them mercilessly, despite their cries for him to stop. The victims- Sadashiv Madar, Sadashiv Babaladi, and Umesh Madar, are from Chikkaliki village in Jamkhandi taluk. The Vijayapura Rural Police are further investigating the case. In a separate incident, a Bengal youth was beaten with sticks and a helmet after a brawl erupted with a group over cigarettes in the Doddanekundi area of the city. The video of the incident has gone viral in which a few youths are seen thrashing a man. The accused, including two minors, kicked and punched the man, and pushed him after the matter escalated. During the interrogation, one of the accused revealed the reason behind the commotion. He said it all happened over cigarettes. Police have arrested Adarsh Adesh, Chandra Shekhar, and Pawan who attacked the man while two others, both minors, are absconding. The victim, Rajesh Das, is a native of West Bengal and works as a delivery boy in Doddanekundi. There was an argument between him and another person Adarsh over cigarettes. Vijayapura: A notorious rowdy Harijan was brutally murdered near Akashvani in Vijayapura, Karnataka on Tuesday after a gang attacked him with deadly weapons, according to police. Bhagaapa, once a trusted aide of the infamous gangster Chandappa Harijan and later his successor, had a long history of criminal activities. In 2017, he narrowly survived an assassination attempt when he was shot outside the court premises. However, in recent years, he had settled in Mudina Nagar, insisting that he had left his past behind and was seeking a fresh start after completing his jail term. The murder took place within the Gandhi Chowk Police Station’s jurisdiction. In response, Police have formed a special investigation team to track down the killers and bring them to justice.

Gold theft at Jewellers solved in six hours, says SP

The district police superintendent Rohan Jagadish announced that the theft at Shantadurga Jewellers near the city’s Tontadarya Math was solved within six hours, with the suspect arrested and jewellery worth ₹80 lakh recovered. The swift breakthrough was revealed during a press conference held at the Town Police Station on Thursday.Suspect stayed in lodge for a week before break-in The accused, identified as Mohammad Husain, son of Mohammad Mustafa Siddiqui from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, had been staying in a lodge adjacent to the jewellery shop for a week prior to the incident. According to the SP, the suspect used a gas cutter to cut through the iron bars of a third-floor window of the shop before entering and stealing gold items.

Harvest of crops due to heavy rains falls, consumers benefit

Vijayapura: Heavy rains in the current year have damaged the kharif crops, including tur, and the compensation is yet to be received. Due to heavy rains in 10 northern districts this year, all crops have been damaged and farmers are in trouble.In Vijayapura district, tur has been sown in 3.20 lakh hectares in the current monsoon season and 1.68 lakh hectares of tur crop has been damaged due to heavy rains.This time the yield has also come down. Despite the floods and heavy rains, some of the tur crop has been harvested. The threshing has now begun. Farmers have started selling tur due to material constraints to repay their crop loans.Traders have reduced the price of tur as farmers have started bringing tur to the market. A week ago, it was Rs 7000 in the open market. There was a price. But now it has come down to Rs 5000-6500.Traders have brought down the price of tur by taking advantage of the compulsion of the farmers. When farmers ask about this, they say that the tur has not dried up yet and the moisture content has increased. Farmer leaders complained that all the traders talk and reduce the prices.
